Scent Discovery Classes with The Creative Canine trainer, Krysia Tann
Scent Discovery is a 45-minute class designed to introduce and develop foundation skills across a range of scentwork styles.
This is a block of 4 classes run over 4 consecutive weeks - you must be able to attend all classes in a block.
Each block will explore different elements of scent training, giving you and your dog experience in more than one type of search.
This may include searching for a specific target scent, building clear indication behaviours such as a freeze response, and teaching a retrieve of a scented article.
The focus is on strong foundations. We’ll work on handling skills, reading your dog, building motivation, and developing clear communication so your dog understands exactly what the job is.
Classes are structured, supportive and progressive, allowing each team to build skills at their own pace.
For dogs, it provides a natural outlet for their instincts. It builds confidence, improves focus and encourages problem solving. It allows them to work independently while still being part of a team.
For handlers, it develops observation skills, timing and trust. You’ll learn how to read your dog more clearly and support them without over-handling.
Together, scent training strengthens your bond and creates a shared activity that is mentally enriching and deeply rewarding.
Scent Discovery is suitable for dogs aged 6 months and over. There is no upper age limit.
Dogs should be comfortable working in a class environment around other dogs and people.
As a low impact activity, scentwork is ideal for dogs who are returning to exercise following injury or illness, as well as for older dogs who need mental stimulation without physical strain.
